Jaap Murre is a Full Professor of Theoretical Neuropsychology at the University of Amsterdam. From 2016 to 2022, he also was head of the Brain & Cognition Programme Group of the Psychology Department. Following his Ph.D. on learning and categorization in neural networks from Leiden University, he worked three years at the MRC Applied Psychology Unit in Cambridge (UK). His research focusses on learning, forgetting, amnesia, and neural plasticity. Much of his work involves simulations with artificial neural networks and mathematical modeling. He also has pioneered the use of the Internet to gather research data on human memory.
